Welcome

travel journal, allen trottierThis is the travel blog of Allen Trottier. I'm venturing away from home, Vancouver, for an extended travel experience. The plan is to leave in the early spring of 2010. I currently have no idea where I'm going, and I don't know for how long I will be gone. Join me through my pre-trip planning all the way through to the journey itself.

How to Sell More Tickets on clubZone

Selling tickets for your event shouldn't be rocket science, BUT, its not as easy as just putting them online either. Some of the key factors to selling more tickets online include ticket price vs ticket worth, you're appealing to the right demographic, and competitive events. Lets take a look at these points in more detail.

Ticket Price vs Ticket Worth

You might be thinking to yourself... "Well that's pretty obvious". I can tell you first hand that I see people trying to over charge for events all the time. The math seems pretty simple. You figure out what your expenses are, then you calculate how much the ticket price should be based on the capacity of the room. I'm not here to tell you what your party is worth. I don't know your budgets or your expenses. All I do is ask you take a step back, look at the overall scope of your party. Everything from the venue, the location, how close to transit, room capacity, lighting, sound quality, talant (bane, dj, dancers etc)... and the list goes on. Take a look at all of these elements and ask yourself "Would I honestly pay $X to attend this event". If the answer isn't "Hellz Yeah!".. you may want to rethink the ticket price.

Know your Demographic

It's very important to know the inner workings of your clientele. If they're students, you should know when they have their breaks and when they have exams. If you cater to a specific nationality, you should know when their holidays are (if they differ from North American holidays). We could make a list a mile long but the point is that these details can either make or break your event.

Competitive Events

When possible, try not to do an event when there are already a bunch of other events that will be fighting for the same crowd or demographic. If you do end up having to compete against other parties, give people a reason to choose yours over another. It could be better drink prices, competitive ticket price, more well known talent etc.

Sell your Event

To round off this section it would be best to touch on Selling. As a promoter, when you're talking with people, you are constantly hyping them up on your event. The same should apply when you're making your event listing online. Don't just listing party name, date, dress code blah blah blah... Sell your audience on the benefits of coming to your party, the same as you would tell them in person. Tell them why!

To help give them a feel for the environment or mood. Use images and videos to express excitement. Show them how your last party was. Show them how much fun people have when they go to your shows. Show them a sample of the famous DJ your bringing. Use your promoting skills on the event listing.
